Name of element city7/27/2023 In 1979, IUPAC published recommendations for their systematic element names to be used for yet unnamed or undiscovered elements as a placeholder, until the discovery of the element is confirmed and a permanent name is decided on. Main articles: Systematic element name and IUPAC/IUPAP Joint Working Party calcium after Latin calx (lime), silicon is named after Latin silex (sand), sodium after soda and potassium after potash. Many elements are named after the minerals in which they are found, e.g. Tellurium is named after the Latin word tellus, meaning "earth". Similarly, the name helium is derived from the Greek word for the Sun (Ἢλιος, Helios), as the first evidence for helium came in the form of distinctive emission lines from the Sun that were not explainable by any of the known elements in the 1870s. The name selenium comes from the Greek word for the Moon (Σελήνη, Selene). Uranium, neptunium, plutonium, cerium, and palladium were named after Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, Ceres, and Pallas, respectively. The Sun and the Moon were associated with gold and silver, respectively.Ī few other elements are directly named for astronomical bodies, including planets, dwarf planets, asteroids, the Earth, the Sun, and the Moon. The naming of elements from astronomical objects stems from the ancient association of metals with the various planets and their gods, as follows: mercury with Mercury copper with Venus iron with Mars (named for the Roman god of war) tin with Jupiter (named for the Roman king of the gods) and lead with Saturn (named for the ancient, slow god who was the father of Jupiter). The names of both magnesium and manganese derive from the Greek region of Magnesia.Copper's name comes from an Old English word derived from the Latin name for the island of Cyprus.Lutetium is named after Lutetia, the Latin name for Paris.Ruthenium is from the Latin name for the region including Belarus, Ukraine, and Russia.Ī number of other elements are named after classical words for various places. Thulium is from the Ancient Greek word for the remote Arctic land that the Romans called ultima Thule.Scandium comes from the Latin word for Scandinavia.Holmium is named after Holmia, Latin for the Swedish capital Stockholm.Hafnium is named after Hafnia, the Latin name for Copenhagen.Yttrium, terbium, erbium, and ytterbium are all named for the Swedish village of Ytterby, where their ores were first found.Several places in Scandinavia have elements named after them. Dubnium and Moscovium were named after Russia's Dubna and Moscow cities.Tennessine and Californium were named after American states Tennessee and California respectively.Berkelium was named after American city Berkeley.Americium was named after the Americas.Indium gets its name from the indigo color seen in its spectrum, the Latin indicum meaning "of India", which makes it indirectly named after India.Beryllium was named after the mineral beryl, whose name may have come from Belur, a city in Karnataka state of India.Francium and gallium, both named after France.Elements which are named after currently existing countries and cities are as: Some chemical elements are named after places on the planet earth. Elenda edh7/27/2023 However, the individual pieces are never dead draws on their own which makes their inclusion more justifiable if you are personally adverse to combo win-conditions. These combos are tried-and-true to the format, and they may seem a bit boring. The Ancient Waysīefore we wade into Elenda's more unique roads to victory, I do feel inclined to mention the usual suspects that fit into her deck. If we gear our deck with the thought to maximize this "downside", we can equally create a greater synergy in the total deck when she's sleeping in her tomb. Usually Commanders with quirks form the most unique strategies, and this isn't any less true for Elenda. Fear not though, as I think this is a blessing in disguise for her. If you are not already aware, "dies" in Magic means "moved from the battlefield to the graveyard." This means that Elenda will not generate tokens if we use the Commander replacement effect to move her to the command zone. "Dies" makes such a difference for how Elenda plays. "When Elenda dies, create X 1/1 white Vampire creature tokens with lifelink, where X is Elenda's power." Her first ability helps with that as she can quickly grow. One of them is that a 1/1 for 4-mana really is not that exciting. Elenda instantly became one of the more polarizing commanders upon her release for several reasons. This is a good ability, and it helps to mitigate some concerns that many had with her. "Whenever another creature dies, put a +1/+1 counter on Elenda, the Dusk Rose."Īs those around her fall, she only becomes stronger in her pursuit. She took upon the curse of vampirism to protect Ixalan (the plane) from the abuse of the The Immortal Sun. If you don't follow the Magic storyline, Elenda is basically the ultimate martyr. Vona, Butcher of Magan and Mavren Fein, Dusk Apostle were two of the fewest played legends from Ixalan, but I think they're trajectory is on the up with this week's contender: Elenda, the Dusk Rose!. However, a few tribes are left to fend for themselves a little more, the legendary Vampires in particular. Id cut Ayli and Altar of Dimentia first.Welcome back to another installment of the Underdog's Corner! Due to personal scheduling details, I have been away for what feels like far too long from writing, but I am excited to be back! What has happened in the world since? Well, Rivals of Ixalan was released, and the higher ups even let me write a Top Ten article about it! So how has the EDH world been shaken up by the newest release? Well, according to our data, Merfolk are currently leading the pack from Rivals with Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca, and Dinosaurs are still making a gigantic splash with Zacama, Primal Calamity and Etali, Primal Storm. Once youve got some aristo-pingers + elenda on table its better for them to not block than kill and make elende stronger and give you death triggers. You can dial back on your sac outlets some as theres a better option for your elenda tokens that requires no cards at all- just attack. ] is good ] is slow since its an aura but protects her from exile once. Cards like that come out as aces for elenda, letting you proc death trigger without having to zone her. I see youve got ] and thats a great choice. Going more heavily on vamps than creatures whod work but arent vampires. Id start cuts with ] ] and ] + the above mentioned switches. They work, arguably but theres similar things that are more on-theme. Youre running ] instead of ] and ] instead of ]. Scanning your deck and noting that youve got both tribal synergies. So, as far as I can see, there is nothing really new or out of the box here, when it comes to the Elenda meta. The main idea behind the deck is basically a standard aristocrat strat: I want either to pump Elenda up by sacrificing stuff or create a ton of vampire tokens by sacing the pumped up Elenda. I actually created this reddit account because of that deck :DĪlso, if there are any cards that I have missed, that really fit the deck (and are within in the budget of the deck) I also would be glad to hear about it! Thanks in advance! It’s been bugging my mind like no deck before. So, I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions, which cards I should cut (or if there are any cards that already have been cut (you can find them in the Maybeboard), that should be returned to the deck)? Really appreciate any suggestions. For a few days now I have been swapping and switching cards, but I don’t get to the point, where it feels "right" or at least an option worth trying (like it has been in other decks I've build before). The thing is, I am really struggling to narrow it down to one hundred cards. I am fairly new to magic (it has been a few month now) and at the moment I am building a ] deck. Does embalming fluid get you high7/27/2023 Chemistry can be complicated, even the slightest change in formulation can create an undesired result. A simple arterial chemical can contain in excess of over 20 ingredients in order to achieve the desired results. Majority of the chemicals us as embalmers use contain some form of preservative (for the purpose of this blog we will assume a formaldehyde-based product), dye, modifying agent (i.e., chelating agent), humectant, an organic salt, a wetting agent and some sort of solvent which is often water. The industry used term “index” should follow the same guidelines that will allow the embalmer to make an educated decision on the scope of formaldehyde content contained in any one product. One thing I can say for sure is that no two manufacturers are the same. We know that there are many different variations of chemicals put forth by an array of different manufactures used in the everyday preparation room. Knowing our chemicals and what they are all about, as well as how they react to the tissue is imperative in becoming a successful embalmer. For the most part, it is common practice for embalmers to refer to a stronger formaldehyde-based product when the index number is higher. However, many embalmers can not tell you what these numbers mean. We refer to both arterials and cavities as 20 index, 30 index, and even 50 index, along with a wide variation of unique indexes in between. As embalmers, we have used the term “index” throughout our entire careers when referring to formaldehyde-based chemicals. Abbyy business card reader app android7/27/2023 Despite multiple screenshots of every identified defect and the cooresponding card, they 'aren't able to reproduce the errors' and therefore aren't going to do anything about them. I expected much better function that what I have experienced. The app keeps interpreting GA the state as Georgia the country Right now the cost of the app isn’t justified given the need to manually correct significant parts of every card. The margins of the auto crop may need to be adjusted. I really like the auto crop feature, but I have a few cards with printing very close to the edge that gets cut off by a letter or number. In theory, the app is supposed to identify when it may have missed a conversion by highlighting the text in blue - I have encountered several errors not in blue. When I have been able to scan the back the app crashes. When I attempted this, instead of getting an image, it converted the whole thing to text, which isn’t what I want or need and I can’t find a means to delete it. Ability to scan the back of the card is needed. I’ve had a few cards not scan - the manual adjustment is cumbersome, but doable. This import is consistently poor with frequent transposing of the zip, state or a street name out of location. A standard country address format or the ability to create appropriate address lines within this field - 4 to 5 lines for the US: building, street, suite/mail code/other and city/state/zip. Many are imported as a solid block of numbers that need to be dashed. The app keeps putting unknown country codes that must be corrected. Phone numbers should import already formatted and there needs to be a section for extensions. The app has repeatedly and consistently put credentials as a last name. The reader needs to determine credentials listed behind names and have a different box for these. It has taken over an hour to scan in and modify only 20 cards due to OCR difficulties, transposed addresses, phone number changes, constant need to retype etc. I chose this over Scan Biz Card specifically because of the auto cropping feature and reports of ease of use/ high ratings. Detroit pistons roster 2022 237/26/2023 Even better, Cunningham shot 48 percent from the field during that span, the best shooting month of his rookie season. Over a 14-game span, he averaged 23 points, seven assists and six boards, joining Michael Jordan and Oscar Robertson as the only other rookies to average at least 22 points, seven assists and five rebounds over an entire month. It didn't get much better when you look at his other shooting numbers further from the basket, but if there's one thing to suggest Cunningham can shed those poor shooting stats from a season ago, it's his performance during March of last season. He ranked in the 72nd percentile among guards last season in shot attempts around the rim, but in terms of converting those looks, he ranked in the 28th percentile. That being said, those will certainly be the two areas to look for in Cunningham's development in his sophomore season. That's a very solid foundation to start with, so it's not worth getting too hung up on where he faltered in his first season in the league. Despite the inefficiency, he still averaged 17.4 points, 5.6 assists and 5.5 rebounds. However, both of those things can be chalked up to getting his feel for playing at this level. He flashed his scoring prowess and elite court vision, but also turned the ball over a bunch and had many inefficient shooting nights. Next up: Cunningham's second actĬunningham had a rookie season that was typical of many guards starting out in the league. The talent on this roster makes Detroit better equipped to limit those long losing streaks, so we should see a more improved Pistons squad capable of at least keeping games competitive. Progress isn't going to be linear, and the Pistons are probably going to rack up tons of losses, but a step forward would be to not have the lengthy 14-game or 8-game losing streaks. But when the Pistons took two steps forward, it was followed by taking a step back, like losing their last three games by a combined margin of 20 points. We saw shades of the Pistons taking steps in the right direction toward the end of last season, losing games by a smaller margin, and even picking off a win or two against playoff teams. On paper, Detroit has one of the most exciting young cores in the league, and while acquiring the talent needed to rebuild a team is the hardest part, the equally difficult next step is translating that into on-court success. Detroit topped all that off by trading for Bojan Bogdanovic, and taking on some distressed assets from the Knicks in Kemba Walker, Nerlens Noel and Alec Burks this offseason, adding valuable veterans to surround the young guys. Even the 2020 draft was fruitful for Detroit, picking up guys like Saddiq Bey, Killian Hayes and Isaiah Stewart who have made strides in their improvement since entering the league. Detroit drafted its franchise guy in Cade Cunningham, and followed that up by adding another top-tier prospect in Jaden Ivey, as well as a promising big man in Jalen Duren, both in the 2022 Draft. Looking at what the Pistons have done over the last several years it's fair to say they've nailed every aspect of their rebuild thus far. Acquired Alec Burks, Nerlens Noel and Kemba Walker from the Knicks.Acquired Bojan Bogdanovic from the Jazz in exchange for Saben Lee and Kelly Olynyk.Traded Jerami Grant to the Trail Blazers in exchange for a 2025 first-round pick via Milwaukee (protected 1-4), second-round picks in 2022, 2025, 2026, $21 million trade exception. But that's all in the past, and while the Pistons don't look like a playoff team right now, there is reason to be optimistic about where this franchise is headed.Īhead of the 2022-23 season, here's a quick breakdown of Detroit's offseason, and a preview of some key storylines to watch for when the season tips off in a few weeks. The Detroit Pistons had a pretty solid offseason that involved drafting some promising young guys in Jaden Ivey and Jalen Duren, closed the Jerami Grant chapter by trading him to Portland for a modest return, and shocked everyone when it pulled off a trade to acquire Bojan Bogdanovic from a Utah Jazz team that has been having a fire sale all summer long.Īll those savvy moves almost make you forget that Detroit finished with the third-worst record in the league a season ago. 2.14.7 pinball arcade apk7/26/2023 “Authenticity is the name of the game here, and Farsight has absolutely nailed it” –GameLive. “an impressive title, and one that is bound to please pinball fans” -148 Apps “This game is superb along with great presentation” – Inentertainment “Pinball doesn’t get any more real or fun on mobile” –Gamezebo “As close to the pinball experience as you will ever get in the palm of your hand” –Pocket Gamer “Simply one of the best pinball games I’ve ever played” – Touch Arcade Please support us in our efforts to preserve these tables and join the indelible part of Americana that is pinball!
